The Speak-Out Youth Group is a program provided by the Adoptive Families Association of BC (AFABC). It is a group of youth-in-care, former youth-in-care and adoptees who meet on bi-monthly to share our experiences, concerns and perspectives on adoption and permanence for teens. Speak-Out members gain valuable knowledge and insights on a range of cool topics by participating in workshops, listening to presentations and hearing the stories of other members. We are always looking to have new members join us as we continue to grow.

  • To create a safe space where young people can talk about adoption and permanence options.
  • To send a positive message about permanency and teen adoption to teens and the greater community.
  • To create resources about permanency and teen adoption for other young people.

The Adoptive Families Association of BC provides province-wide support and education for families beginning to think about adoption, families who have decided to adopt, and families who have already had a child, teen  or children join them through adoption. AFABC also plays a significant role in promoting awareness of the thousands of BC children and teens in the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development, hundreds of whom are waiting for a family.
